What does the data-driven future of CQC regulation mean for care home owners?
The changes, first set out by CQC’s Chief Digital Officer, Mark Sutton, last October, intend to make the CQC a ‘smarter regulator’ that is more accurate, dynamic and flexible in its approach.
The new strategy is partly due to the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic, which saw a reduction in the number of physical visits that CQC regulators could make to care homes as an adaptive measure.
By adopting more digital and data-driven methods, The CQC will be able to:
· Identify real-time trends, shifts and outbreaks as they happen
· Monitor in which regions care homes need support
· Track improvement progress
· Provide up-to-date information and guidance in an accessible format
For care home owners, this will mean implementing new methods to record compliance, in line with the modern approach. This includes:
· Regularly self-reporting care home data to the CQC
· Having the right technology and systems in place
· Available resources and support to modernise individual care homes
· Additional staff training to use the new CQC systems
Our care consultancy partners, Fulcrum Care Ltd, have pulled together more strategic advice about the changes and what they mean for care home owners.
